While I could finish coding them to push in a couple weeks now, given the multiple game-long many-character-archetype-affecting changes inherent in both that system and the skill point / spell formula changes in that package, it doesn't feel appropriate to squeeze in at the end of a version cycle. 11:00:26 I'd like a lot more time to observe and possible rebalance and iterate without feeling rushed on anyone's part. (I know I expected them to be relatively earlier in 0.34, but then I spent literal months refactoring things and time has really crept up on me... >.>) There were a bunch of new weapon brands in that package that I think can make it to 0.34 without issue (they're far less sweeping in their effect, after all) and a handful of other smaller 11:00:26 things, but I feel like we should probably schedule feature freeze at this point. 11:02:41 <06regret-⸸nde※> (While it's a little disappointing to hold off on content, having weapon arts and a new portal with new enemies land at the start of 0.35 trunk should be good for differentiating it from 0.34 stable for a while, as it'll take a while to finally work 100% on Hell-Pan roulette over almost anything else.) 11:03:02 <04dracoomega> Yes, I can work on having it ready to go very early into 0.35 11:03:16 <04dracoomega> For maximum observation time 12:02:55 kush (L15 DsHu) ERROR: range check error (1000 / 788) (Orc:2) 13:00:08 <09gammafunk> one awkward aspect of 0.34 release is that I'd really prefer to have a working replacement for Sequell by tournament 13:00:23 <09gammafunk> I'm going to continue working on that but it's not 100% clear when a replacement will actually be available 13:03:50 03dolorous02 07* 0.34-a0-1499-g3ddfb001de: Fix missing space in an encounter message. 10(4 minutes ago, 1 file, 1+ 1-) 13https://github.com/crawl/crawl/commit/3ddfb001de0b 13:05:54 <04dracoomega> Oh, that is a good point I had not considered. So I guess we maybe don't want to freeze until we feel a replacement is in place and safely working? (For which it is currently hard to get a time-estimate) 13:06:23 <11Odds> Just in case, is there anything that another pair of hands could do on that? 13:52:09 <08nicolae> fair, although at the moment i'm only using 9s (and 0s, for that matter) as draugrs or zombies, which i hope takes some of the edge off, though i can also cut the 9 draugrs if even that is a bit much 13:54:15 <09hellmonk> if there's any other core pre-tournament stuff I can start on something this weekend 14:00:01 <04dracoomega> I was planning to do math on the piety decay PR myself later today (though there's probably a few others that would be pretty easy merges 14:05:24 <04dracoomega> In terms of larger things, there's the 'slimy stairs' thing that Index and I still wanted to get into this version. (ie: can only go down and not up unless worshipping Jiyva or TRJ is dead), along with removing some protection against stairs ever landing near slimy walls. Possibly some connectivity check code might need updating, though I've not really looked myself yet. (This is something I was planning to do myself in the next 14:05:24 week or two, but I do have enough other things on the shortlist and I think you were at least somewhat in favor of the idea when it was talked about last?) I have debated whether the stairs from Slime:4 <-> Slime:5 should still work normally so that you can at least retreat from things going very wrong with TRJ; Index isn't sure whether that is needed or not. 15:11:43 <02Monkooky> the slime 4/slime 5 stairs being slimy I think would be impactful but I don't think it's necessarily a huge problem 15:17:43 <04dracoomega> I mean, it would matter, obviously. It's just a question of exactly how mean that is in particular. (I do personally have a tendency to circle around and clear each stair on Slime:5 (and where it leads on Slime:4) before engaging TRJ, but maybe the threat level would still be fine if I couldn't. It's a big floor to ?tele on, after al.) 15:18:30 <02Darby> the stairs are also significant insurance before and after TRJ is dead (but before the spawned slimes are) 15:18:55 <02Darby> like doing vuln-poly and if every poly attempt fails, go upstaird 15:20:19 <02Darby> or upstairs after TRJ dies to fight the slimes scattered (though ?tele can also accomplish this) 15:20:34 <11Odds> I don't think Slime:5 would be too cruel without upstairs, teleporting works well there as DO says 15:20:59 <11Odds> Bit mean for mummies perhaps, but that's what they are for 15:22:13 <11Odds> I'd actually be more scared of slime 1-4 not allowing you to go back up. It's very very easy to get swarmed there 15:24:04 <04dracoomega> Well, after is fine, of course. You can still go back when they're dead. 15:25:30 <04dracoomega> This may be true, though I'm uncertain exactly how unmanageable this would be, in practice. (Would probably want to try it a few times, once the collected set of changes and new monsters are there.) There might be some argument for reducing monster count slightly or pushing things away from the stairs a little or somesuch (not sure yet). 15:32:08 <11Odds> Making slime quite a bit harder would be clearly good IMO 15:33:54 <04dracoomega> Yes, 'harder' is desired. But it's good to be conscious of 'how much' and 'in what way' in the process 16:15:52 <09gammafunk> probably not, unless you have particular expertise in setting up and optimizing postgres (with a ruby front-end). Basically, if you want to try your hand setting up and loading data into sequell yourself and figuring out where postgres 17 might be bottlenecking on a "typical" KVM setup. The branch I'm working on is here. Just be warned that it'll take over 200GB and probably a good deal of time to get the data fully loaded into the 16:15:53 DB. The Sequell README does a good job of covering how to set up Sequell, the go loader, etc. 16:17:27 <09gammafunk> I'll be continuing to work on my setting in coming days but I don't want to commit to a timeframe as to when it'll be ready. It can do basic queries ok, but it's just far too slow for moderately complex ones and there are bad uninterrruptable sleep processes left when a sequell task is killed via the standard 90s timeout. I think IO issues are happening but I need to look into what's going on with postgres more 16:28:34 <04dracoomega> Unfortunately, all of that is well outside my own experience 16:28:52 <04dracoomega> Though I am certainly wishing you all the best with it ^^; 16:40:12 Unstable branch on underhound.eu updated to: 0.34-a0-1499-g3ddfb001de (34) 16:50:33 03dolorous02 07* 0.34-a0-1500-g5f636c768b: Tweak a graffiti line. 10(31 minutes ago, 1 file, 1+ 1-) 13https://github.com/crawl/crawl/commit/5f636c768bd9 16:50:33 03dolorous02 07* 0.34-a0-1501-g71aa25b113: Add magic gods (Sif, Veh, and Kiku) to graffiti. 10(12 minutes ago, 1 file, 12+ 0-) 13https://github.com/crawl/crawl/commit/71aa25b1139b 16:52:01 <06regret-⸸nde※> @hellmonk In terms of other tenable tasks to still get done this version, there was general agreement on the Ash curse degrouping a bunch of months ago, as another nerfing players and magic option you should be interested in attempt to correct on how many cross-school spells have powered up the curse groups over time? 16:55:07 <06regret-⸸nde※> If gammafunk has no ETA on an operational Sequell I could try to still fit in the new portal this version and could put up a branch with the portal contents when I've only got the monsters + tiles + three or so maps, though this uncertainty leaves me not entirely sure whether or not to move forward on that versus the other things still left to do this version. (The new Slime monsters shared with it will almost certainly be done 16:55:07 next week, at least.) 17:17:17 <06dolorous_84348> Unfortunately, I'm going to have to take a break from development soon due to some things that have come up. I meant to get to making weapon egos available in the help lookup, but I haven't because some bits of that are still tricky. I've fixed as much of the monster naming issues in bug 4908 as I can stand; hopefully in the meantime someone else can look at the remaining cases. While graffiti needs some more options (stuff like 17:17:17 god-related bits and commentary on species and uniques) I've added enough to it that I think it has a decent selection by now, and hopefully it should be easy for others to add to. On a separate note, I've also wondered about how to fix bug 4824 (in console mode, spike launchers are invisible in lightred-colored rock walls because their character and color match such walls exactly) but I have no idea what would work as an alternative. 17:18:12 <06dolorous_84348> Incidentally, slimy stairs do sound interesting, although I wonder how they'd react with sourceless malevolence's shafting the player in Slime. (Then again, sourceless malevolence can do the same in the Hells, right?) 17:21:42 <02Darby> yeah, sourceless hellevolence is often considered a good thing, but it admittedly at least comes with the fact that the upstair is normally an option and isn't when shafted 17:54:40 03dolorous02 07* 0.34-a0-1502-gb33fb8936d: Add another rare name to graffiti. 10(3 minutes ago, 1 file, 2+ 0-) 13https://github.com/crawl/crawl/commit/b33fb8936da3 18:18:15 03dolorous02 07* 0.34-a0-1503-gac88d310f9: Let graffiti show up in another Xom message. 10(3 minutes ago, 1 file, 2+ 0-) 13https://github.com/crawl/crawl/commit/ac88d310f949 21:45:57 <12ge0ff> @gammafunk, IO problems are likely related to memory settings: by default, Postgresql uses a very minimal amount of memory to not slow down the server. Like, shared_buffers is only 128 MB by default, but it should be 25%-40%, 1 Gb+, of the total 🐏. It'd be ideal to copy postgresql.conf from the old-Sequell, but there are only a few parameters to tune and plenty of guides for how to choose the right numbers. 21:45:57 (https://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/runtime-config-resource.html) And if this doesn't help, then you'd need to check Postgresql logs for error messages, which are pretty verbose. 22:05:13 03dolorous02 07* 0.34-a0-1504-g3242075b58: Add Cheibriados references to graffiti. 10(7 minutes ago, 1 file, 4+ 0-) 13https://github.com/crawl/crawl/commit/3242075b580a 22:08:17 <09gammafunk> thanks!
