00:07:56 <07acrobat> @dracoomega when using dith shadowslip multiple times in a row, there are following problems in current trunk. 00:08:00 <07acrobat> https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/747522859361894521/1275712995187626055/1.mp4?ex=66c6e3cf&is=66c5924f&hm=b477d1bcda5d65d90b2f3e0fdc9fd2c8e89beae87f95565319ab67ed5710e7f1& 00:08:03 <07acrobat> 1. as shown in the video, monsters start to attack player even though shadow slip duration isn't over yet. 00:08:07 <07acrobat> https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/747522859361894521/1275713027907260519/2.PNG?ex=66c6e3d7&is=66c59257&hm=2f7f86b90502a84e6376ca469f7f094c3b41a0db1de163990fddcc302a1b629e& 00:08:09 <07acrobat> 2. shadow's hp continues to increase without limit. (maybe this is intended?) 00:08:16 <07acrobat> also, I have one question: is it intentional that when using ranged weapon, the first attack doesn't guarantee mimic unlike melee weapon? 00:30:32 <04dracoomega> Actually, what is going on in (1) appears to be simply that the duration of the visual transformation of the shadow stacks a lot better than the duration of the mislead effect does. When you use shadowslip, a duration is rolled for it, and all monsters which are already misled have their duration set to that (so that all monsters are misled for the same amount of time, which makes it a lot easier for the player to keep track of), 00:30:33 but the shadow visual transformation adds the new duration to its existing duration). Basically, distraction effect duration seems right, but visual is misleading. I can make them match properly. I wouldn't say that the shadow's HP increasing without limit was exactly intended, just that I had not specifically considered using it many times back-to-back. In practice, the shadow will disappear in a few turns after this regardless of how much health 00:30:33 it has, and obviously the number you are showing there is from a completely impractical number of times using it (with a lot of piety and also health cost). So I'm not sure it's actually a real problem? Well, rather than saying it was intentional that ranged didn't get it, it's more like... fishing for shadowslip backstabs in melee felt kind of bad without the reliable opener. It often involves the player moving forward into danger, and then if that 00:30:34 doesn't pan out, you can be in a very bad position. Melee shadow mimics aren't especially good for escape in a lot of situations, either, since they often appear deeper into enemy groups. Ranged doesn't have the same degree of motivation to fish for an offensive shadowslip opportunity and can do so more safely. (Spells also have no such gaurantees) 00:31:16 <04dracoomega> Early versions of local Dith playtesting didn't have the guaranteed melee opener shadow and I feel this played a lot worse because of how shadowslip wants to use it 00:40:05 <07acrobat> 1. got it 2. I could benefit from using it three or four times in a very dangerous fight to get higher HP shadow, but like you said, it's probably fine. 3. It seems a bit inconsistent to me that range weapon behaves differently than melee weapon, but I don't have a strong opinion on this. I was just curious. thanks for the detailed explanation! 00:43:21 <04dracoomega> I mean, I'm not completely opposed to the idea of ranged mimic getting this treatment also, to be clear. I know I was originally fairly cautious about ranged mimic being too strong, and eventually decided that it seemed fine to lose the reduced damage factor it had compared to melee mimic. Maybe it would be fine to work the same in this context as well. (Spell mimic certainly can't, though) 00:45:39 <07acrobat> I played only one raged dith char but it didn't feel like better than melee in that game. probably a lot worse than for stabber? 00:45:40 <04dracoomega> Using shadowslip repeatedly for higher HP in one fight seems mechanically fine from the perspective of how does so cost a meaningful amount of piety and HP already (to a degree that I think would rarely be worth it). My only real concern, I think, is if it feels weird or sufficiently unexpected that it works this way. 00:46:21 <04dracoomega> Like, keep in mind, the next time the shadow vanishes, it's back to normal again 00:46:28 <04dracoomega> So it's very fleeting 00:46:44 <07acrobat> ah probably not that weird. 01:17:43 Stable (0.32) branch on underhound.eu updated to: 0.32-b1-1-g67e854b3c2 01:54:43 Haven (L6 FeSh) Crash caused by signal #11: Segmentation fault (D:4) 03:34:28 Experimental (bcrawl) branch on underhound.eu updated to: 0.23-a0-5208-geafff8c3b6 03:40:54 <12ge0ff> ^--- Apparently, it's the 97th time when bcrawl was updated to 0.23-a0-5208-geafff8c3b6, starting from 2024-05-15.
