We've already set up the tournament scripts on CDO 19:00:13 <09gammafunk> I can probably do the implementation myself and ask you questions if I get stuck, but what did you think about banning meteoran from lowest turncount, best high score, and for combo high scores not being viable for the class high scores? 19:00:35 <09gammafunk> and that said, if you do have time to implement that, feel free, since I'm sure you can do it much faster than I can 19:00:57 <09gammafunk> also not sure if there are any other banners that need meteoran exceptions aside from the ones mentioned 19:02:38 <09gammafunk> one thing I may also do this tournament is set up a special qw-only 0.29 install for cdi and then add that to the tournament, so I can include the latest and greatest qw without adding load to any official server 19:02:59 <09gammafunk> and the only other aspect to that is making sure it's recognized as a bot 19:05:16 <06advil> I wonder if for its first t it should be eligible for turncount? or more ambitiously maybe have a me track and a non-me track? 19:12:06 <09gammafunk> A prominent turncount player made the suggestion that me be disallowed, although I'm not sure how universal that sentiment is. He made a valid point that for combos high scores, the huge 27 point bonus for class score is going to be a lot more restricted in terms of what could get it combo-wise given how easy me are to win with high scores. In the past there's been some variety there because the gap between best and merely ok species 19:12:09 for high score wasn't so big 19:12:24 <09gammafunk> One way to see how true that is would be to do as you say and just allow me this t 19:13:49 <09gammafunk> Sergey: The point is in previous tournaments there were like 3 sub 25k runs overall (2 of them Yermak) and you could reasonably beat both specie and background with one run. Now if you play lets say DrIE it will be unreasonably hard to beat IE 19:14:08 <12Napkin> hey Gamma 19:14:10 <09gammafunk> was Sergey's summary of why giving Me those bonus points is bad 19:14:11 <12Napkin> what's going on? 19:14:15 <09gammafunk> :wfrHey: 19:14:31 <12Napkin> new tournament, new version? 19:14:35 <09gammafunk> yep 19:14:38 <09gammafunk> Letting you all know that the 0.29 branch stone_soup-0.29 is available for installation. Don't think we can decide upon and implement species scoring multipliers in the timeframe we have until release/tournament. We'd like to do the release tomorrow and I'm not sure how much work it would be to adapt the new tournament scripts to aut scoring as well. We'd probably like to avoid quickly changing scoring for sake of making release/tournament only to change 19:47:41 it again in 0.30, so probably that change should just happen in 0.30. 19:48:19 <09gammafunk> Which is maybe what you meant in the first place, but there's still this tournament to address (in terms of what to do about Me for turn-based score) 19:53:56 <12ebering> sounds good to me; I will not have time to make it happen though this week is class week 1 19:53:58 <12ebering> rip my time 19:57:49 <10PleasingFungus> rip 20:02:47 (I didn't mean doing aut scoring right now, no) 20:05:16 (my inclination would be to avoid special-casing Me because if the idea of the species is to introduce more people to the turncount speedrun style then they should actually be eligible for turncount speedruns) 20:08:39 (maybe it's okay to just disable them for background highscores though? mainly I think they should still be eligible for overall scorerun/turncountrun stuff) 20:09:55 <10PleasingFungus> hm, in general i like having fewer special cases, but i’m not totally sure that was the intent of me? feels like there’s a distinction between time pressure and speedrunning 20:10:01 <10PleasingFungus> matter of degrees, i guess 20:14:41 what I mean is that the process of playing Me feels a lot like the process of trying for a turncount speedrun - manual exploration, less changing your mind about branch order (e.g. you can't really go do a level of shoals, then decide spider would be easier and go there, then decide to do a little elf first, etc), fewer items/consumables... 20:15:13 if you took what you do as Me and behaved the same way on a different character, you would basically be doing a speedrun 20:15:29 <10PleasingFungus> i suppose i’ve never done a really serious speedrun 20:15:40 <10PleasingFungus> i see what you mean 20:15:48 it's not that scary! it's just like Me :) 20:16:32 <10PleasingFungus> haha 20:16:51 <10PleasingFungus> i usually do some halfhearted speedrunny things 20:17:24 <10PleasingFungus> only resting to partially full and healing it off as i explore, etc 20:18:03 that's more like anti-piety-decay play IMO (though a lot of gods nowadays don't have decay) 20:32:35 <09gammafunk> yeah, preventing them from setting the class high scores may be enough 21:10:43 <09gammafunk> elliptic: By the way, if you're interested, have a look at the configuration section of the qw readme at https://github.com/crawl/qw to see some of its new capabilities. I've spent the last few months completely rewriting its approach to travel, planning progress through the game, and stair exploration, and have made smaller improvements in many areas. It can play trunk and win stuff like GrFi/GrBe/MiFi/MiBe/DsFi of Oka/Trog/Ru, 21:10:43 albeit with not as high a success rate as it had with DD, of course. Also taught it some new strats for tomb and new hells, although these aren't too elaborate. It's managed to get basically all runes with GrFi^O->1, but has trouble actually picking up the abyssal rune. Am working on some floodfill tech to improve its ability to move towards various goals like monsters behind transparent obstructions that are reachable, moving towards abyssal rune 21:10:44 lights and rune, etc. Can watch it on loop (when it's not taken offline for bug diagnosis) at https://crawl.dcss.io/#watch-qwqw 21:11:19 <09gammafunk> you'll also be happy to know that I taught it how to use transporters and it now does gauntlet, wizlab, and salt portals whenever it can (and has pretty good success rates with them) 21:14:07 <09gammafunk> one bad thing about the bridge, I never know if my pings to irc-side will work because of the bridge prefix. Maybe everyone just has their client set to ping if their nick appears anywhere in the message, but I think it used to be common to have a ping only if a message began with their nick 22:08:49 gammafunk: neat, the new gameplan list stuff in particular is very nice 22:09:33 qw actually had a higher winrate with Gr/Mi of O than with DDs by the time I stopped working on it 22:12:07 I imagine you had to update a lot of stuff to account for changes in recent versions 22:13:15 e.g. it used to do a lot of running away from monsters at melee range to reposition, and probably it should do less of that now? maybe that doesn't matter too much though 22:13:59 all of its shield strategies could probably use looking at too 22:16:06 I think teaching qw to use ranged combat might be pretty interesting now that that's a fairly simple thing to do 22:18:46 (maybe MiHu of oka, raising dex and using fairly light armour) 22:34:43 Unstable branch on crawl.develz.org updated to: 0.30-a0-6-g7c9e10e132 (34) 22:56:11 Windows builds of master branch on crawl.develz.org updated to: 0.30-a0-6-g7c9e10e132 23:15:01 Unstable branch on cbro.berotato.org updated to: 0.30-a0-6-g7c9e10e132 (34) 23:54:07 Monster database of master branch on crawl.develz.org updated to: 0.30-a0-6-g7c9e10e132
